FAQs

What types of people use executive coaching services?

All kinds of people — not only executives, but also professionals, small business people, staff in organizations, managers, supervisors, and so on.

What are the benefits of executive coaching?

Each person will find something different of value in executive coaching. So much depends on the exact challenges an individual is confronting, his/her past experience, his/her motivation to learn and grow.

With that said, many people involved in coaching see the following as principal benefits. Generally speaking, they are able to

  • Get the perspective of another experienced person — on an ongoing basis — on issues important to their personal and professional development.
  • Be able to deal more effectively with other people (raise their emotional IQ).
  • Get and stay motivated.
  • Brainstorm with another experienced person about their plans and strategies.
  • Make sure they’re not ignoring valuable options and opportunities that they have.
  • Have accountability for making progress on their goals.
  • Enhance their leadership capabilities.

How does executive coaching differ from personal or life coaching?

Executive coaching typically has as its main focus business or work issues. That’s not to say that personal issues don’t make up part of executive coaching. But, the greater emphasis is on business or work. With personal or life coaching, the emphasis is on personal development or life issues rather than business or work issues, although it’s fair to say that business or work issues do enter into personal or life coaching as well.

How is coaching conducted?

For the most part, we do our coaching by telephone.  In certain instances, we can meet in person, but that entails extra expense to the client and will be arranged on a case by case basis.

What sort of time commitment do you require?

Typically, a minimum period of 3 months, though we ask coaching clients to mentally commit to at least a 6-month period.

How long does executive coaching typically last?

Between 6 and 12 months, although it can go longer.

Do you offer a maintenance option?

Typically, after a regular coaching relationship, it can be useful to schedule maintenance sessions. These are neither as intense nor as frequent as regular sessions. Maintenance sessions might occur only once every three months, or once every six months or even just once a year. It all depends on the client’s needs. The main reason for having them is to ‘take the temperature of things” — to check that things are on track and that progress is maintained. The possibility of maintenance sessions is discussed when regular sessions are ending.

What sorts of coaching arrangements do you provide?

We work with clients to develop the ideal package. This depends on their needs, the urgency with which they need to progress, their competing time demands, budget availability, time available for sessions, etc.

Some typical standard arrangements are

regularly scheduled meetings – 45 minutes each – twice a month

regularly scheduled meetings – 45 minutes each – four times a month

Do you offer assessments in addition to standard coaching sessions?

Yes, although our primary emphasis is on one-to-one coaching.
